LAST GAME:
The Victoria Titans season is officially over. Despite leading for the whole first half of the Game 3 decider in Townsville on Tuesday night, the Titans fell apart in the 3rd quarter. Despite a gallant late comeback, the Titans seemed to run out of legs- no doubt an effect bought on by injuries to stars Jason Smith and Chris Anstey. Once again it was Rob Rose who took the game out of the Titan's reach by hitting a go-ahead jumper with 12 seconds left in the final period. Standout players for the Crocs were Andrew Goodwin (23 pts) and Rob Rose (20pts). For the Titans guards Andrew Dickel scored a career high 33pts and D-Mac chipped in 19. The Titans, who I believe were living on borrowed time since Smith's injury, will have the entire offseason to contemplate what could/should have been.
The Grand Final Series will now be played between Townsville and Wollongong.

OTHER GAMES:
If, at the beggining of the season, someone had told me that the Wollongong Hawks were going to win the 2000-2001 NBL Championship, I would have pumped them with valium and sent them off to the nut-house! However, now that they ARE the NBL Champions, it seems I am currently feasting on a slice of humble pie.
Yes, I never have the the slightest chance of winning it all. I thought that the Wildcats would tear them apart- they proved me wrong.
I thought the 36ers would sweep them- yet again, I am wrong!
I thought that the Crocs would eat them alive, and send them back to 'Gong' in tiny pieces- but once again, I was wrong. Dead wrong.
After a dramatic 17pt loss on Saturday avo, I thought that Game 3 (on Sunday) would be a wash-out. The Hawks got out to a great start- leading after one quarter. But the second quarter proved to be a different story.
The Crocs then showed their full potential, with Rob Rose and Mike Kelly stepping up. At half time the Hawks were looking more and more like losing it- backup guard Damon Lowry was in fould trouble and they desperetly needed a spark.
The third quarter, however, didn't provide that. The Crocs continued their attack. They led buy 8 after 36 mins, and were a mear 12 minutes from their first ever championship.
All seemed to be going well for the Crocs- up until they lost their lead with 6 minutes to go. The Hawks reeled off quick points to take the lead for good with only a few minutes remaining.
Down by 3 with only 2.3 seconds remaining, the Crocs had one desperation shot, but Rob Rose couldn't handle the full-court pass and lost the ball. Game Over. The Wollongong Hawks win the Championship.
